Lent for Moms of Littles

Sometimes your whole life feels like Lent.

I know that especially when you have little kids it can feel absolutely impossible to think about adding yet another thing (or take away the thing that keeps you sane) after all of the mothering (aka self denial) that’s happing during the day.

I’d like to invite you to think about Lent differently this year.

Our culture is so concerned with how hard I can work. How much I can get done. It feels like if you aren’t doing your devotional everyday and checking of your prayer commitments and giving up your coffee then are you even doing Lent right?

And that’s just not the way that God works.

God is calling you to be a saint. He knows the best way for you to do that and is continually LEADING you on that path. He doesn’t expect you to figure it all out on your own, and he doesn’t want you to feel like you are losing your mind on your way there.

Something that I have really been enjoying is to pick a bible verse to lead you during different seasons of life. I invite you to do the same and pick your own, or use the same verse as me and we can be Lent Verse Buddies :)

“Therefore, I will allure her into the desert, and speak tenderly to her.” Hos 2:14

This verse speaks so deeply to me, especially in my motherhood, an area where I can often feel tired and drained.

- The Lord pursues you, He calls to your heart and just asks that you follow Him.

- He brings you away from the noise of the world, the craziness of parenthood and calls you into the quiet wilderness where He can speak truth into your heart.

-He loves you tenderly, and mothers you in the exact ways that you need. He holds your heart close to His and lifts you up when you are weary. He never abandons you.

Because praying Lectio Divina with this verse has been so powerful for me, I wanted to create a way for others to do the same. So I created a Lenten Visio and Lectio Divina Set inspired by this verse from Hosea.

My intention with this piece is to infuse this verse into your Lenten prayer (however much or little that is!). The same way a devotional journal can center your day around certain themes and truths this banner and print are designed to do the same, except there aren’t any days to miss.

The print has reflection questions on the back to lead you through meditating with the verse and then every time you see the banner or the print you are re-centered. Your entire day becomes a prayer.

Buy a Lenten Set here and look out for a second post talking about how to use it to pray with your kiddos this lent too!
